Understanding Your Fatal Tools Brushes

"Natural hair brushes" like the goat hair bristles used in Fatal Tools require a different kind of care than synthetic brushes.

Because they’re made from real cuticle hair, they are delicate, porous, and designed to perform best with powder formulas.

With the right maintenance routine, your brushes will stay soft, structured, and long-lasting.

Between Makeup Applications

Over-washing natural hair can dry it out, so gentle maintenance between uses is key.

Wipe off excess powder on a clean towel or microfiber cloth, natural hair releases pigment easily. Spot clean only when necessary with a gentle, low-alcohol spray. Useful for makeup artists or oily/acne-prone skin, but not a replacement for proper washing.

Fatal 6 AND Fatal 12

These two brushes use a shaping agent to achieve their precise architecture. They require extra care:

  • Wash gently and minimally.
  • Towel-press excess water without pulling.
  • Use a brush guard immediately after washing.
  • Dry upside down or sideways to preserve their sculpted form "Upside down is highly recommended if possible."

Monthly Deep Cleaning

Deep clean your Fatal Tools brushes every 3–6 weeks,
depending on how often you use them.

  1. Wet the bristles with lukewarm water, always pointing the brush downward. Avoid wetting the ferrule because water inside can weaken the glue and increase shedding.
  2. Lather gently with a small amount of gentle shampoo "Baby Shampoo with built in conditioner is highly recommended". Swirl softly in your palm until the pigment lifts.
  3. Rinse downward under lukewarm water. Use fingers to move the hair lightly and release remaining powder.
  4. Press out excess water with a clean towel. Do not twist, pull, or squeeze harshly.
  5. Apply a Brush Guard while the bristles are still damp helps maintain structure and prevent frizzing especially on sculpted brushes.
  6. Dry upside down or sideways overnight. Never dry brushes upright; water seeping into the ferrule can loosen the bristles over time.

Important Notes

Natural Shedding
A small amount of shedding during the first wash or two is normal for handcrafted natural hair.

Dye Release
Fatal Tools uses deep red cosmetic-safe dye. A slight tint may rinse out during the first wash. This is normal and stops
quickly.

What to Avoid
Natural bristles should not be used with:
Creams / Liquids / Gels / Balms / Pomades.

These formulas absorb into the hair, cause misshaping, weaken the glue, and shorten the lifespan of the brush.

Best for powder products: Setting powder / blush / bronzer, highlighter, and contour / eyeshadows, pigments, and shimmers.

This is where natural hair delivers its most diffused, soft-focus blend.

Longevity & Proper Care

With proper care, natural hair brushes can last many years, even a decade or more. Treat them like calligraphy brushes: soft hands, gentle cleansing, correct drying, and mindful storage.

  • Following these instructions ensures the bristles remain smooth and conditioned.
  • Brush guards maintain structure as the hair naturally changes with moisture.
  • Keeping water away from the ferrule protects the glue and prevents shedding.
  • Using only powders preserves the integrity of the natural cuticle.

Handled well, and your Fatal Tools brushes will age beautifully becoming softer, more precise, and more effortless with every use. Just as intended.
